News emerges on takeover
Sale Sharks chairman Brian Kennedy has today completed his takeover of Stockport County Football Club. The takeover will mean that Sale will use Edgeley Park for their Zurich Premiership games from next season and that a new company called ‘Cheshire Sport’ will be set up to run both clubs.
News on the takeover is slowly being filtered through although at the moment we can gather the following:
- A new company called ’Cheshire Sport’ will be formed to control both Stockport County FC and Sale Sharks RUFC.
- Niels de Vos, current chief executive of Sale Sharks, will be in charge of the holding company ’Cheshire Sport’.
- Sale Sharks chairman Brian Kennedy will be the 100% owner of ’Cheshire Sport’
- Brian Kennedy will remain as chairman of Sale Sharks with Brendan Elwood remaining, for now, as chairman of Stockport County. The current board members at Stockport County will also remain the same.
- Sale Sharks will play home matches on a Friday with Stockport County using the ground on a Saturday.
- Stockport County manager Carlton Palmer will remain in the hot seat at Edgeley Park.
