Torquay or Woking await the Hatters in FA Cup

FA Cup draw

The draw for the FA Cup first round has neither been particularly kind or that harsh on us, as we have been drawn at home against the winner of the replay between Torquay United or Woking. The two teams drew 1-1 at Plainmoor on Saturday and will replay at Woking’s Laithwaite Community Stadium this evening to see who progresses through to face County in November.

Whilst we are enjoying a mixed season in the League this year and currently sit in 10th place, the fact that we have been drawn at home again is a bonus as we have won all three FA Cup ties this season at Edgeley Park 2-0. We have two tough League games against Chorley (3rd) and Kidderminster Harriers (5th) coming up before the FA Cup first round match, so if we continue with our recent good form then there’s no reason why the players shouldn’t be confident of causing an upset – especially at home. Our possible opponents are both struggling in the League above as Torquay currently sit in 18th place in the Vanarama National League and Woking currently sit just above the relegation places in 20th.

In Saturday’s fourth qualifying round match at Plainmoor Luke Young gave Torquay the lead in the 5th minute and substitute Anthony Edgar ensured the tie went to a replay as he netted for Woking in the 80th minute.

The first round game will take place at Edgeley Park on Saturday 5th November and it will be interesting to see if the club revert back to their normal ticket prices for this game or if they continue with the policy of reducing the prices for the FA Cup.

Attendances in the FA Cup this season have been good so far as 1,425 fans watched the first qualifying round match against Hyde United, 3,181 attended the game against Salford City in the third qualifying round (491 away fans) and 2,770 (241 away fans) watched Saturday’s game against Bishop Auckland in the fourth qualifying round.
