Burnley friendly called off
The pre-season friendly against Burnley at Edgeley Park has been cancelled following discussions between Greater Manchester Poice and the club. Burnley’s development squad were due to play County on Tuesday 28th July but the game has now been cancelled as police intelligence suggests that there could be trouble at the game and therefore there would be a cost to police the game.
Despite the majority of Burnley fans being otherwise engaged at the same time as Sean Dyche’s first team squad play Fleetwood Town in a friendly, the police have advised the club that our own fixture would fall into a ‘Category A’ game as intelligence suggested that rival fans could clash and as such there would have to be a police presence at the game. Despite ‘Category A’ being the lowest possible grade for a match, the fact that we would have to pay to have the police around the ground for a friendly game which would probably attract around 1,000 fans in total has been deemed too high by the board of directors at Edgeley Park.
The club are yet to announce if they will arrange another game to fill the slot as Neil Young prepares his team for the new season although Burnley have announced that their development squad will now face Ramsbottom United instead.
